Tips for Birding

Protocol for visiting when open: drive west on the access road to a ramp on the right side. Use the call box on the ramp at the gate and ask permission to enter and look for birds. When the gate is opened, drive in and make a U turn at the top of the ramp. Look for a paved area on the right signed for birder parking. Park there and proceed on foot only. You may walk around the several basins to the north which may hold water. Stay out of the active treatment areas and away from buildings on the west side. Stay away from any construction activities. (It is no longer necessary or acceptable to drive to the office to sign in.) To exit, drive your vehicle over the yellow sensor in the road to open the gate. Usually closes to birders at 2 PM. Across the access road to the south are several recharge basins that can be viewed from outside their fences.
