Ouse River--McNulty's Bridge

Ouse River--McNulty's Bridge

Tips for Birding

The traffic on the 7th Line can at times be quite busy, particularly during the summer months with traffic associated with the golf club. From the north, there is room for one vehicle to pull off on the west road shoulder immediately north of the bridge; and from the south a wide road shoulder at the entrance lane to a farm field (be sure not to block the entrance to the field!). Scan from the bridge and walk the road through the swamp.

Birds of Interest

The flooded maple swamp south of the bridge supports numerous pairs of Northern Waterthrush as well as Red-bellied Woodpecker, Brown Creeper and Wood Thrush. Great Horned Owl has nested in this swamp in some years and large flocks of highly vocal Rusty Blackbird are usually present through April into early May. Winter Wren, White-throated Sparrow and Canada Warbler breed in the white cedar swamp. Both Alder and Willow flycatchers breed in the shrub thicket swamp west of the bridge and may be heard singing simultaneously. A pair of Northern Rough-winged Swallows usually nests beneath McNulty’s Bridge, as does Eastern Phoebe.
