About this Location

Observe birds and animals from the large windows overlooking the wetland where food and water attract wildlife. Exhibits feature the plants and animals of the riverside with emphasis on historic uses and ecosystems. Outside herb and xeriscape demonstration gardens are located adjacent to the facility.

The Nature Center was originally designed to overlook the wetlands of one of the oxbows which once existed along the Animas River. The wetlands were constructed and the wildlife has inhabited them. The wetlands serve as a refuge for wildlife and provide people a unique viewing opportunities from the Nature Center and specific points on the trail. Come and enjoy this wonderful hideaway in Animas Park.

The Animas River Trail system offers over 8 miles of trails to explore and includes paved, dirt, wood chip, and cobblestone paths. The river trails are popular with individuals looking to exercise as well as bird watchers. More than 100 species of birds have been identified throughout the trail system and parks.
