Douro Third Line, Douro-Dummer, Ontario
Roadside birding - try walking up and down the road through the wetland area.
This is a good spot during the breeding season for marsh birds like Alder Flycatcher, Marsh Wren, Virginia Rail, Sora and Sandhill Crane. Both Least and American bitterns are present but in low density. The adjacent conifer forest supports breeding Red-breasted Nuthatch, Winter Wren, Blue-headed Vireo, Blackburnian, Magnolia and Nashville warblers and Purple Finch.
Sawer Creek Wetland & Wildlife Area is a property owned and managed by Otonabee Conservation. Most of the property is inaccessible wetland. Birding is done from Douro Third Line where it crosses over the extensive wetland at the west end of the property. The marsh on the east side of the road south of Sawer Creek to the conifer woods is Otonabee Conservation Property, everything else is posted private property and should not be entered. Douro Third Line can be a busy road, so be sure to pull well off the road and watch for traffic.
