This is a popular recreational trail used by  cyclists, dog-walkers and others. It is most productive in early morning.

About this Location

This hotspot covers the Rotary Rail Trail (also called Lakefield Rail Trail and Rotary Greenway Trail) from Trent University north to Douro Ninth Line.

The trail is relatively wide and flat and consists of fine limestone screenings. It passes through a variety of habitats, including shrub thickets, shrub marsh, graminoid marsh and mixed forest.

You can access the trail from three locations:

  • The south end by parking at Trent University (fee required most of the year).
  • The middle by parking at lock 22 and walking across the road through the Promise Rock Nature Area.
  • Parking on the side of Douro Ninth Line.
