Eagle Lake is a natural pond that covers about 100 acres of land. The lake is maintained by a dam at its north end, which was built in the 1800s. The lake is surrounded by a wildlife sanctuary managed by Mass Audubon, which protects the diverse habitats and species that live there. 

With everything from large red oaks to extensive wetlands, Eagle Lake supports a wealth of wildlife.

Explore 2 miles of trails with many pleasant overlooks at Eagle Lake Wildlife Sanctuary. Walk along Asnebumskit Brook to admire the bright red cardinal flower in late summer and large oaks year-round. Look for barred owls sunning on tree branches during the winter.

Asnebumskit Loop
Hike up the glacial mound for a look into the forest, scan the pond edges for waterfowl, walk on a dark hemlock ridge, and admire the colors along Asnebumskit Brook. This loop will add 40–50 minutes to the Appleton Loop.
