The main campus, the McKay Campus School, and athletic fields occupy 79 acres in the city of Fitchburg; the biological study fields occupy 120 acres in the neighboring towns of Lancaster, Leominster, and Lunenburg. The university was founded in 1894 and has a campus of 32 buildings on 48 acres in a residential area of the city.
