Tips for Birding

The hotspot is a small, rectangular, earthen-banked pond on private property. It is encompassed on the north, east, and south by agricultural fields. With the large field directly east having been converted to pivot irrigation, forming a crop circle, the vegetation on the north and south of the pond, outside the berms, is likely volunteer alfalfa. Also outside the berms, at the southeast corner are some solar panels, whereas at the northwest corner are some mature deciduous trees. In the southeast corner of the pond are cattails (fall 2022). The pond may only be observed from the west, along North Wahington Avenue, from which it is separated by a barbed-wire fence. Standing in a pickup bed provides a pretty good view from the street if you park near the pond's northwest corner, though binoculars are a must.
