Do not miss examining the canal, which should have water at least in early spring, just east of Eagle Lane as you drive in.
The roughly 50-acre park contains a community center, veteran’s memorial, playground, baseball and softball fields, soccer fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, and skate area. Portable restrooms are located near the playground. Owned by the City of Belen, public festivities such as the local 4th of July celebration are held here. During baseball/softball season and soccer season, the park sees heavy usage on Saturday mornings.
In addition to the turfed areas, cottonwood, ash, and various species of evergreen trees may be found throughout the park. Peripheral areas to the north and west are in Chihuahuan desert scrub (notably mesquite, saltbush, and tobosa grass).
Although you can walk through the gap to the west of the chain-link fence gate northwest of the high school football field, the main entrance to the area is via Eagle Lane, east of the high school and north of Delgado Street. View Map
