Drive slowly along this gravel road and scan the fields! The fields around this hotspot can support a wide variety of species- songbirds in the vegetated areas along creeks, shorebirds and grassland birds in the fields, and raptors circling overhead.
This hotspot is a regular stopping point for Sandhill Crane during migration. Longspurs, sparrows, and shorebirds can be seen in the fields. Watch for Say's Phoebe and Vermilion Flycatcher on fenceposts during the winter. If the grassy fields have grown up, this hotspot can support Short-eared Owls in the winter.
This hotspot is in reference to all fields surrounding White Switch Road. The southern half of the road is where a majority of the birding has been done. All property is private, so do not leave the road. Landowners have not been an issue here, but watch for trucks driving very fast- they do not slow down.
