Lake Palestine--Dam (Anderson Co. portion)

Lake Palestine--Dam (Anderson Co. portion)

FM 1892 Frankston, Texas 75763

Tips for Birding

Scope the lake and check the trees west of the boat ramp and the fence line along the base of the dam.  The drive the dam road to the first turnoff to the right.  This road goes over a mile parallel to the river.  Look for the normal woodland birds like chickadees, titmice, both kinglets, creepers and woodpeckers.  Proceed to the first crossing - the county line follows the river here.  The road here connects to the previously mentioned road but is rougher, especially after a rain.

About this Location

The hotspot marker is at the lake’s edge at the end of FM 1892.  You can explore this area, and there’s an accessible walkway to a fishing pier.  You can turn south onto the dam road just before the parking area.  The sign indicating “private road” is a standard disclaimer from the water authority, but it is open to the public.  The dam itself is closed, but there is a road extending over a mile into the woods opposite the dam.
