When this part of the Middle Bosque has water it is one of the most interesting birding spots in McLennan County. It is the western-most hotspot in the county so birds that you don't normally see occasionally stop by. Downstream is the better option. Wear good boots and watch for snakes. It can be tricky getting from the road to the creekbed.
Louisiana Waterthrush, Indigo Bunting, Black & White Warblers. First eBird record of a Golden-cheeked Warbler recorded in April 2023. Summer Tanagers, Canyon Wren, Blue Grosbeak, Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Canyon Wrens can be found here or about 100 yards north.
Parking is limited to pulling off the side of the road. Recently the owner on either side of the downstream side has aggressively posted No Trespassing signs and painted trees and rocks purple. I do think the water is still open to the public.
