Peterborough--McNamara Park

Peterborough--McNamara Park

Tips for Birding

This small park is certainly worth a brief stop but does not currently qualify as a destination birding spot. Bordering the Otonabee River the river spring and fall migrant waterfowl are likely and the riparian shrub thickets and scattered trees may attract a few migrants.

Birds of Interest

Still rather poorly known with fewer than 70 species currently recorded, there is considerable potential for the addition of many more species.

About this Location

McNamara Park is a small (~1 ha) community park on the Otonabee River at the junction of Guthrie Dr. and McNamara Rd. A cooperative effort by the City of Peterborough and the Ontario Federation of Anglers & Hunters, the park was officially opened in August 2023. The property had formerly been the site of a large residential house which was demolished in 2016. The park currently consists of a gravel parking lot, manicured lawns, riparian shrub thickets, and a pollinator garden.
