About this Location

The Kelley-Drake Conservation Area is a 194-acre parcel of land that was first settled by Samuel Kelley, one of the original settlers of New Hampton, in 1774. He built a log cabin near Kelley Pond, now part of Pemigewasset Lake, and acquired large tracts of land over time. The area has two miles of trails constructed by the New Hampton Conservation Commission, which lead to the Kelley-Drake farmstead cellar holes, wetlands, meadows, and Kelley Island. A kiosk donated by the New Hampton Historical Society provides information about the history of the property. The area is part of the Lake Waukewan watershed, which provides drinking water to Meredith and other towns.
