Eel Pond is a salt pond with a complex story. While boasting scenic salt marshes and offering opportunities for nature exploration, it faces challenges due to environmental concerns.
Historically, this tidal pond suffered from restricted flow due to a railroad bridge construction, leading to poor water quality and the closure of shellfishing. Efforts are underway to address these issues, including restoration projects aiming to improve tidal flushing and combat invasive species like Phragmites.
Despite its challenges, Eel Pond still holds appeal. The surrounding salt marsh provides habitats for diverse birdlife, and the shallow waters offer opportunities for crabbing and exploration.
