This is one of the only locales in Nacogdoches County to find large quantities and diversity of waterfowl. Common waterfowl here in winter include teal, shovelers, wigeons, scaup, Redhead, Hooded Merganser, and Ruddy Duck. It is also the best spot in the county to find Rusty Blackbird.
The Nacogdoches WTP is not open to the public. However, WTP staff are welcoming to birders on the property. Contact WTP staff for access using the contact information on their website or drive in and ask at the headquarters.
