The Vernon Commonage is a large area of grasslands and wooded hills south of Vernon that forms one of the top birding routes in the North Okanagan. Western Bluebirds and Tree Swallows nest in bird boxes placed along the fence lines, and Red-tailed Hawks are frequently seen.
The Vernon Commonage lies within the north Okanagan Valley of south-central B.C. It covers 6,728 hectares, bounded by the City of Vernon in the north, Okanagan Lake in the west, Kalamalka Lake in the east, and the District of Lake Country in the south.
