Tips for Birding

When submitting eBird observations at Indian Brook Conservation Area, it is most helpful to start a new checklist for each hotspot in the conservation area. Use the general hotspot when you have a checklist that includes multiple locations or if no other hotspot or personal location is appropriate for your sightings.

About this Location

The Indian Brook Conservation Area is a sprawling area of woods 210 acres in size and has approximately 0.75 miles of frontage along Indian Brook. Within the Conservation Area is the Manomet Recreation Area which holds four softball/little league fields, and a playground. Paved parking is readily available for the use of these public facilities.

A recently cleared walking trail winds from the playground, across Indian Brook Road, and towards Shallow Pond. The trail is unique in that it was originally a game trail established by deer walking through the area, and so it's an 'out-and-back' trail, not a loop; a conservation boundary sign and a bench denote the end of the trail. It moves past large old-growth pine trees and several old swales created by heavy rains over hundreds of years. Guests wishing to walk the trial are asked to share the parking for the recreational field and may enter the trails behind the playground. An official trailhead kiosk with a trail map is located adjacent to the playground in the recreation field complex.
