Tips for Birding

When submitting eBird observations at Northmoreland Park, it is most helpful to start a new checklist for each hotspot in the park. Use the general hotspot when you have a checklist that includes multiple locations or if no other hotspot or personal location is appropriate for your sightings.

About this Location

Northmoreland Park is 548 acres and contains a small lake (17 acres) with a boathouse and snack shop. There is a walkway that makes a complete circle around the lake, where a Tundra Swan, Double Crested Cormorant, Redhead, and a few other waterfowl have been seen. Off of the paved walkway is a path that traverses through the woods where Eastern Towhees, Yellow warblers, etc. have been seen. Eastern Kingbirds, Eastern Bluebirds, and several other small species have been sighted along the lake. Osprey, several hawk species, and other smaller birds can be seen among other paths or trails in other parts of the park away from the lake, as there are approximately 11 pavilions with different habitat for wildlife, an Activities Center, Sports Fields, and restrooms.

From US-22 and PA-66 (near Delmont) go north on PA-66 for 11.3 miles and turn left on PA-356 North. Go 3 miles to the park entrance on the left.
