Tips for Birding

The roads here can be rough, and although they may remain accessible by a low clearance vehicle, a 4WD or AWD vehicle is recommended.

Walking paths are mowed annually, but grass may be tall and visitors should plan accordingly. Visitors are encouraged to wear waterproof footwear. 

Visitors to this location are encouraged to wear brightly colored clothing during the fall-winter hunting seasons.

Indian Rock Dam is a 1,000 ft. long & 83 ft. high earth and rock structure constructed in the mid-1930s by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. Located in Central York County, Pennsylvania, this dam was designed to protect the City of York from flooding by the Codorus Creek. The Army Corp. has cooperated with the Pennsylvania Game Commission to protect land situated behind the dam that is currently open to hunting and other forms of outdoor recreation.
