About this Location

State game land 108 is located in Chest, Clearfield, Dean, Reade, and White Townships, Cambria County as well as Anits Township, Blair County. It is in wildlife management units 2E and 4D, and currently has 22,762 acres.

The Game Commission currently maintains 62 public parking areas on SGL 108. There are 41.2 miles of maintained administrative roads throughout SGL 108, providing for public access to this area by foot. The farthest point on SGL 108 by foot from a parking area or public road is approximately 1 mile. Ten administrative roads, totaling 12.5 miles in length, are open for big game season (weather dependent). Otherwise, the roads are currently closed year‐round to public motor vehicle traffic and access is controlled with locked gates. The gated roads and rights‐ofway provide access for hunters and avenues for hiking, wildlife photography and bird‐watching.

Adjacent to SGL 108 is Prince Gallitzin State Park and Glendale Lake. The lake and the two bays formed by Killbuck Creek and Slate Lick Creek respectively, offer excellent waterfowl hunting opportunities. The bays extend onto SGL 108. Furtaking opportunities include raccoon, coyote, gray fox, fisher, beaver and bobcat. Stocking of ring‐necked pheasant occurs on the SGL in areas of appropriate habitat.

A relatively large game land, SGL 108 is of sufficient size to accommodate horseback riding and mountain biking. There are five routes designated for these activities. There are also two designated trails for handicapped hunter access via approved motorized vehicles. One handicapped hunter access route begins at a parking lot located along the access road entering from Rt. 53 at the village of Frugality. The second is located at the Fiske parking lot, adjacent to Prince Gallitzin State Park, just west of the village of Fiske. There are 16 gated roads and trails used for management activities, along with multiple public utility lines which provide excellent avenues for hiking, bird watching, wildlife photography, and other similar forms of outdoor activities.
