About this Location

More of the Appalachian Trail passes through Virginia than any other state, and views from overlooks reveal pastoral scenes that are a mix of forest and farmland. With 554 miles of trail from Damascus to Harpers Ferry, birders are sure to find a mix of habitat and plenty of avifauna to observe. The high elevation of the trail allows birders to find breeding birds that would normally be found at much higher latitudes including Dark-eyed Junco and Cerulean Warbler.
