When submitting eBird observations at the Pike Lands, it is most helpful to start a new checklist for each hotspot in the area. Use the general hotspot when you have a checklist that includes multiple locations or if no other hotspot or personal location is appropriate for your sightings.

Located near the northernmost point in Lubec, the Pike Lands offers scenic views of Eastport and points east as well as Cobscook Bay to the west.

This conservation area is actually comprised of two open-access properties along the North Lubec Road: A 91-acre property owned by Downeast Coastal Conservancy on the south side of the road and a 30-acre easement property owned by Maine River Trails LLC. At one time the entire property was owned by esteemed naturalist Radcliffe Pike who planted an eclectic variety of horticultural plants now featured as an educational arboretum. The two properties also include a total of 1.5 miles of hiking trails which traverse a unique variety of plant, bird, and wildlife habitats as well as a sandy beach. This preserve was acquired with the support of the Land for Maine’s Future program in 2005.

Take US-1 to ME-189, leading to Lubec. After 9 miles, turn left on North Lubec Road at McFadden’s Variety. Go 5 miles to the Downeast Adventures sign (on the right) near the end of the paved road. Park past the sign on either side of the road.
