Murphy to Silver City Subloop

Tips for Birding

This 23-mile route takes you on a graveled road to the historic mining town of Silver City. Excellent spring and summer birding can be found along the way. Green-tailed Towhee are common in Silver City. Broad tailed, Calliope, and Black-chinned Hummingbirds can be seen during early and late summer as well as Rufous Hummingbird during migration. A good place to visit is the cemetery just south of town for birds such as nesting Red-naped Sapsucker, Mountain Chickadee, Mountain Bluebird, Hermit Thrush, Warbling Vireo, and Black-throated Gray Warbler.
