About this Location

Tanglewood offers educational programming for children and adults and houses more than 40 native and exotic animals. Visitors can hike over ten miles of trails on-site at Gleason Meadows and Frenchman’s Bluff and at Personius Woods on West Hill Road.

There is a gravel parking lot, with two spaces reserved for handicapped parking closest to the sidewalk that leads to our front door.  Expect about a 100 ft walk from the main parking lot to the front door. There is a secondary lower parking lot near the building that provides easier access to the birds of prey and bird feeders. All parking is free.

Admission to the Nature Center is free.

The Nature Center is self-guided. There is no reception desk. When you enter through the main door, you can proceed directly into the exhibit hall, to the restrooms, or the gift shop.

Many visitors choose to head directly to the trails. The trailhead has a kiosk with a trail map, cautionary signs, and event posters. The trails are free. Trails are open from dawn to dusk, every day of the year. Dogs are not permitted on the trails.

Tanglewood has two separate trail systems, Gleason Meadows and Personius Woods. The trail systems are not connected (you cannot hike from Gleason Meadows to Personius Woods). They are a very short distance by car (about a two-minute drive from one parking lot to the other).
