Tips for Birding

The campus of Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) contains a number of different habitats. Forest birds are best viewed on the gravel trail that is accessed behind the Visual Arts Center and travels through mixed deciduous-conifer forest to the confluence of Beaver and Kelly Creeks, and continues to a levee overlooking the campus pond. Seasonal warblers can often be found on trees bordering the wetland (NE corner of campus). The levee that runs between the main academic building and the athletic facilities provides tree-level views of big-leaf maples and an overview of a pond. A surprisingly good location is the Beaver Creek Overlook from the bluff between the Fisheries and Facilities buildings (near the dumpsters and mulch piles). Parking is available throughout campus and is free.

Access to the levee with views of the forest and pond is completely accessible from the main campus building.
