Sessions Woods Wildlife Management Area

About this Location

Sessions Woods Wildlife Management Area focuses on conservation education, with facilities to bring school groups, the general public and natural resource professionals from throughout Connecticut and the region to participate in educational programs, demonstrations, and workshops pertaining to wildlife and natural resource management. These facilities include an education center with an exhibit area and a large meeting room, as well as interpretive trails, and habitat management demonstration sites. Sessions Woods Wildlife Management Area offers conservation education programs that use the expertise of Wildlife Division and other natural resource management staff. Staff may also be available, by appointment, to conduct group educational programs at the Center and to give technical assistance and professional advice to visitors on an individual basis.

Notable Trails

The AllTrails website has a map and description of several hikes at Sessions Woods Wildlife Management Area.

The Beaver Pond Trail is a 2.6-mile gravel trail passing by a 38-acre wetland, an old fire tower and a waterfall.

The 0.6-mile Forest Meadow Trail is a gravel path with demonstration sites showing wildlife management practices for small land tracts.

The 0.4-mile Tree ID Trail is a footpath meandering through a variety of habitats from a dry, upland site to a moist brookside.

The 0.4-mile Crosscut Trail passes through a 14-acre site cleared in 2001 to improve the health and diversity of the forest, as well as to diversify the wildlife habitat at Sessions Woods.  Hike this trail to see how a “new forest” is generated!
