When submitting eBird observations at Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge, it is most helpful to start a new checklist for each hotspot in the refuge. Use the general hotspot when you have a checklist that includes multiple locations or if no other hotspot or personal location is appropriate for your sightings.
Encircled by waterfall-draped mountains, the picturesque Hanalei Valley on the north shore of Kaua‘i harbors the Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge.
Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge is closed to the public to protect endangered and threatened species of birds. Visitors may overlook Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge from an observation point located along Kūhiō Highway in Princeville. Interpretive signage at the overlook provides information on the Refuge's wildlife and management.
Hikers may drive through the refuge on Ohiki Road to access the Okolehao trailhead. Parking is limited. Please drive under 15 mph allowing wildlife to cross the road. Do not stop or park your vehicle along the road.
