The two eBird Hot Spots here represent generally similar habitats. The eponymous hot spot is for a road entrance north of the river, and the "south" hot spot is for the eastern, of two entrances south of the river.

 Besides these two, there is also a good river view from Paige Road (VA-605), where it crosses the river. You can park close to that bridge, at the boat ramp parking lot on the E side of the bridge.

There is also another, third driving entrance further west, at coordinates 38.06856, -77.41129, on Paige Road about 1/2 mile east of South River Road (VA-638).

Remember that all Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) in Virginia are fee areas, and require either an entrance permit or a current license.

The Mattaponi Wildlife Management Area has a boat ramp on Paige Road, and three driving entrances, with eBird Hot Spots located at two of them. The area is a mixture of mature pine woods and recovering secondary succession growth, on both sides (north and south) of the Mattaponi River.
