Rome's popular riverfront system of multi-purpose trails runs through historic Downtown Rome. Rome's rivers and surrounding train tracks once served as the main thoroughfare for transportation. Each section of the trail is named for the history of the area; look for interpretive signs along the trail to learn about Rome's history and cultural development. ECO stands for Etowah, Coosa, and Oostanaula; the three rivers that run along the greenway.  The greenway was once know as the Heritage Trail System. Currently there are over 16.7 miles of trail segments with plans to expand.  

The upcoming Mt. Berry Trail extension to AdventHealth Stadium will soon create a continuous 13-mile loop around Rome’s rivers (The section of the trail that is under construction is noted on the map above as a dashed green line). The loop should be completed by early 2024. Planning is also already underway for expansion of the ECO Greenway with construction of the Lindale Trail that will connect downtown Lindale to the Kingfisher Trail.

Trails are open dusk to dawn. Restrooms can be found at Ridge Ferry Park, at the Town Green, and at Heritage Park.
