About this Location

North Haven Island is a small island located in Penobscot Bay. It has a year-round population of around 400 people, which increases significantly during the summer months due to its popularity as a tourist destination.

The island is known for its rugged and natural beauty, with a mixture of rocky shores, sandy beaches, and dense forests. It is home to a variety of wildlife, including bald eagles, osprey, harbor seals, and dolphins. 

The island has a few small businesses, including a general store, a gas station, a few restaurants, and some shops selling locally-made crafts. There are also several bed and breakfasts, as well as vacation rental homes available for visitors.  Mullen Head Park is located in the southeast part of the island.

North Haven Island is accessible by ferry from the nearby town of Rockland. The ferry trip takes around 1.5 hours and provides views of the surrounding coastline. Once on the island, visitors can explore the many hiking trails, go kayaking or sailing, or relax on the beaches and enjoy the natural beauty of this island community.
