About this Location

Owls Head is named after a rocky peninsula that resembles the head of an owl, and it is home to several species of owls, such as the great horned owl, the barred owl, and the northern saw-whet owl. A resort and fishing area, the community is home to the Knox County Regional Airport. It includes the village of Ash Point. Owls Head has a lighthouse, two state parks, two preserves, a harbor, and beaches that attract birds. This small town on the coast of Penobscot Bay is home to a variety of birds, especially during the spring and fall migrations.
