South Llano River State Park

Tips for Birding

When submitting eBird observations at South Llano River State Park, it is most helpful to start a new checklist for each hotspot in the South Llano River State Park.

Use the general hotspot when you have a checklist that includes multiple locations or if no other hotspot or personal location is appropriate for your sightings.

So, for example, if you visit one of the bird blinds, please use the hotspot for that specific bird blind.

If you are hiking the trails or fishing, swimming or paddling the river, then the general South Llano River State Park hotspot would be the appropriate hotspot to use.

Birds of Interest

Golden-cheeked Warblers (endangered) and Black-capped Vireos (threatened), both sought after Central Texas/Hill Country targets, may be seen throughout the park and often come to the water features at any one of the four bird blinds.

About this Location

Check-in at the main park entrance first to obtain your entrance permit. There is a per-person entrance fee to use the state park.

A state park pass might be a wise investment if multiple people are birding or if you think you will be accessing a Texas State Park multiple times over the next 12 months.
