Mansfield Birding Drive

Birding Drives are routes for birding trips which can be accomplished in one day, stopping to walk and bird at various eBird hotspots. For each birding drive, a Google map is provided with the route and suggested stops at eBird hotspots. You may save the link to the Google map on your smartphone or tablet, or print a copy on paper to take with you. Links are provided with information about each eBird hotspot. Mansfield Lahm Airport and Vicinity

2000 Harrington Memorial Road Mansfield, Ohio 44903

From Mansfield, drive north on Main Street (OH-13) for 2 miles. Turn left onto Harrington Memorial Road and go 0.8 miles. Turn left onto Cairns Road and drive 1.2 miles. Turn right and go 0.6 miles. Turn right onto Crall Road and go 0.8 miles. CrallRoad turns slightly left and becomes Airport Road. Observe birds from Airport Road and other roads in the area.

Mansfield Lahm Airport and vicinity has been identified by Audubon Ohio as an Important Bird Area. The roads in this area traverse private lands. Please, view birds from the roadside only.

Ohio State University Mansfield Campus

From Mansfield Lahm Airport, drive northwest on Airport Road for 0.7 miles. continue onto Amoy East Road and drive 1.1 miles. Continue onto Amoy West Road and drive 2.3 miles. Turn left onto Plymouth Springmill Road. Turn left onto OH-39 east and go 1.4 miles. Turn right onto North Lexington-Springmill Road and go 0.8 miles. Turn left onto Kenwood Circle and arrive at the Mansfield Campus of OSU in 0.5 miles.

Richland B&O Trail--Home Rd. Marsh

South Home Road Mansfield, Ohio 44906

From the Mansfield Campus of OSU, turn left onto North Lexington-Springmill Road and drive 4.3 miles. Turn left onto Alta West Road and go 0.8 miles. Continue straight onto Marion Avenue and go 0.3 miles.

Park in the parking area on Marion Avenue near the intersection of Home Road and Marion Avenue where the Richland B&O Trail crosses Marion Avenue. Walk north on the trail to Home Road Marsh.

Gorman Nature Center--Property and Trails

2295 Lexington Avenue Mansfield, Ohio 44907

From the Richland B&O Trail parking, drive west on Marion Avenue. Turn left onto South Home Road and drive 1.7 miles. Turn left onto Lexington Springmill Road and go 1 mile. Turn left onto Hanley Road and drive 1.3 miles. Turn left onto US-42 and go 0.4 miles. Arrive at the Gorman Nature Center.

The Gorman Nature Center features 150 acres of forests, fields, prairies, ponds, and streams, the Center provides over three miles of public trails close to the population centers of Richland County. Families and individuals are welcome on the trails or in the Center’s visitor center and picnic areas. The Gorman Nature Center naturalist staff sponsors weekly programs for the public featuring a wide variety of hikes, field trips, lectures, slide programs, and night sky programs. In addition, the Center offers daily programs for schools, youth groups, garden clubs, seniors citizens, and service clubs.

Fox Glen Park

West Straub Road Mansfield, Ohio 44903

From the Gorman Nature Center, turn right onto US-42 north and go 0.7 miles. Turn right onto Straub Road and go 0.8 miles. At the traffic circle, take the second exit to stay on Straub Road and go 0.7 miles. Arrive at Fox Glen Park.
