About this Location

Cow Common is 72.1 acres of open fields with red maple swamp mixed in throughout the southwest corner of the property that borders the Sudbury River.

There is a small parking lot at the Wayland Community Gardens, which is noted by a large brown post with the Number 60 on it, visible from Old Sudbury Road (MA-27). Another larger parking lot with two entrances is directly across the street from the North Cemetery.

Notable Trails

The 2.2-mile trail system can be accessed from a number of different points in both parking lots. Heading north the trails traverse through two hay fields which will eventually bring you back to the parking lot. You can also continue along a trail that brings you by the Sudbury river then bends east through a small forest of white pines and back to the community gardens parking lot. The field’s perimeters are maintained throughout the growing season and are regularly used for cross country when the weather permits. The Interior section of the property is the Wayland Community Gardens which consists of 342 30x20ft individual plots.
