At the upper park Red-headed Woodpeckers, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, and Northern Flickers are common, as well as Eastern Towhees, Brown Thrashers, and Robins. At the lower park, there are a number of mature Walnut Trees and I frequently see Baltimore Orioles, Eastern Wood-Pewees, wrens, and other species there. There is a one-mile loop trail around the Reservoir. The bottom third on both sides are open mowed areas, and the upper two-thirds are wooded. The trail is maintained by volunteers, and is usually in pretty good shape, but is narrower and more uneven as you get to the north end. Vireos, Wood Thrushes, Catbirds, Northern Flickers, and Belted Kingfishers are present. The water draws Canada Geese, but Wood Ducks have appeared in the past.

If you walk down the hill you drove up to get to the park, there are farm fields where Eastern Bluebirds, Barn Swallows, and Wild Turkeys are common. The small cluster of trees at the entrance also hosts a lot of woodpeckers. About fifty yards north on Shadyside Drive (this is a gravel dead-end road, with very little traffic), a wooded glade on the west side is a very good spot to see warblers, and Blue-gray Gnatcatchers. Especially in the spring and early summer, the Reservoir is alive with birds, and more experienced birders will no doubt identify a number of species I have not.

To get to the New Concord Village Reservoir, follow Shadyside Drive one mile north from US-40, just west of New Concord. Shadyside is adjacent to a stone S-Bridge right on US-40. The entrance to the Reservoir is on the right. You will climb a short hill, and at the top it forks, and you can find parking at both ends of the fork. The right fork goes down to the water and a small gravel parking area. The left fork goes up to a parking area adjacent to a small park surrounded by woods.

The park is open from dawn to dusk. Kayaks, canoes, and other non-motorized boats are permitted on the Reservoir. You can fish if you first get a free permit from the New Concord Village Hall.

Access to the New Concord Village Reservoir is from Shadyside Drive.
