Tips for Birding

This is an excellent place to look and listen for treetop warblers from the top of the bluff. There is only a rough trail from the parking lot to the top of the escarpment and then a pretty treacherous switchback down to the floodplain. This is definitely a challenging path and probably should not be tried when muddy.

About this Location

A new Conneaut Creek angler access site in Ashtabula County is dedicated to the late Phil Hillman, who served for 37 years with the ODNR Division of Wildlife.

A parking lot was created and a trail was cut to provide access to the creek. By connecting this piece of property with a piece of Ohio Scenic River’s property, anglers can easily access this section of the creek to pursue steelhead. This area is now named the Phil Hillman South Ridge Road Access area. Carolyn Hillman, Phil’s wife, was accorded the honor of cutting the ceremonial ribbon to the new public fishing access site.
