Tips for Birding

Lakeview Park is a good location to check for shorebirds. Get to the beach early before crowds arrive. Check gull and goose flocks carefully as well as rock break walls. Use a scope to view a private beach just east of Lakeview as American Avocet and Black-bellied Plover have been spotted there in past years.

Lakeview Park is a stop on the Lake Erie Birding Trail.

About this Location

Lorain County Metro Parks’ first lakeside recreational park, Lakeview Park, offers 20 acres along the north side of West Erie Avenue in Lorain, Ohio. This nearby neighborhood park, known for its Historical Rose Garden, spectacular sunsets, and views of the Lorain Lighthouse, hosts a variety of recreational opportunities awaiting visitors of all ages, from swimming and sunbathing, to lawn bowling, beach volleyball, picnicking, and much more!

The 49-acre Lakeview Park is located on West Erie Avenue (US-6) in Lorain. Parkland is found on both sides of the road.

The 20-acre northern section is leased to the Lorain County Metro Parks and includes the historic Rose Garden, picnic shelters, paved trails, lawn bowling, two amphitheaters, and access to a 1,850-foot swimming beach. In 2007, the bluff was re-graded and handicap-accessible walkways to the beach were added. Beachside playground equipment and beach volleyball courts are available. The beach also provides paddling access to the 27-mile Vermilion-Lorain Water Trail. Fishing is permitted. Lakeview Park features a new, 1920s-inspired bathhouse with eight family changing rooms and a concession stand.

The city-managed southern section, known as South Lakeview Park, includes active-use amenities, such as baseball, softball, and soccer fields and basketball and tennis courts.

Restrooms are in the Bathhouse when it is open.
Handicap-accessible sidewalks lead to the beach.
