Swamp Road is rural and infrequently traveled. Cautious viewing from the roadside is the only option and a scope is typically helpful, as the waterfowl can be at quite a distance in the flooded fields. It is a prime area for waterfowl after heavy rains, especially in late winter and into spring, with over a dozen species sometimes present. Rarities such a Snow Geese and Greater White-fronted Geese have also frequented the area. When not flooded, it is an area to check for birds that favor agricultural areas, such as Horned Larks, American Kestrels, and hawks.
The agricultural fields adjacent to Swamp Road, which lies between US-40 and I-70, can host ducks and geese during wet weather. This road traverses privately owned properties. Please view birds from the roadside only.
