About this Location

The YMCA Walking Path is a .5-mile gravel loop. The path goes around the perimeter of a large grassy area that serves for youth soccer fields during the fall and spring months. It is bordered by Crooked Creek to the north, the Pike County YMCA building and tennis courts to the east, US-23 to the west, and Pride Drive to the south. Parking is in the Pike County YMCA parking lot.

This is a good location to find Cedar Waxwings, Eastern Meadowlarks, Eastern Bluebirds, Eastern Phoebe, Hooded Merganser (in the creek), Kingfishers, Canada Geese, Crows, Northern Cardinals, Yellow Warblers, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Mockingbirds, Golden-crowned Kinglets, Chickadees, Blue Jays, Robins, Brown Creepers, Downy Woodpeckers, Northern Flickers, Tufted Titmouse, White-throated Sparrow, American Tree Sparrow, Song Sparrows, Red-tailed Hawk, and Eastern Meadowlark.

To view the creek, you have to find openings in the vegetation, so this is best as a late fall, winter, and early spring spot. I don’t see much in the summer because the vegetation is so thick. But if you are lucky, the birds will be in the trees between the path in the creek for good viewing.

Restrooms in the YMCA. The YMCA is handicap accessible. The Walking Path is not handicap accessible.
