About this Location

The Coldwater Creek Treatment Train uses a former 40-acre farm field as a water treatment area, using vegetation and constructed wetlands to filter phosphorus and other nutrients from water flowing from Coldwater Creek into Grand Lake. Removing the phosphorus is done to eliminate the food source for algae. Algal blooms create high levels of microcystin, a dangerous liver toxin, in the water.

Coldwater Creek Treatment Train is accessible to the public and has a public nature trail. There is also a small parking area that can be accessed from Johnston Road.
