Tips for Birding

At the Hocking Woods Nature Center, located at Hocking College, there are two ponds, a small ephemeral stream, and it is adjacent to the Hocking River. There are many trails to hike over acres and acres of forested unglaciated hills. The center actively feeds the birds, observations can be made from outside and through viewing windows inside. The nature center is operated by Hocking College and is mostly student-run, used as a training facility for natural resource students interested in developing their skills and knowledge in nature center operations.

About this Location

Beneficial as a tourist attraction as well as a learning environment for Hocking College students, the Hocking Woods Nature Center features an interpretive building, wildlife habitats, ponds, walkways, feed stations, and seasonal programming for the public, groups of school children, and scout troops. Students in the college’s Natural and Historical Interpretation program use the Center to design activities, learn about the eco-system, and provide care for injured birds in the Raptor Rehab Center.
