During the summer of 2017, many trees were removed along Summit Road, allowing better viewing of the reservoir. However, there are few areas where a birder can safely park or pull off to view the water. There is a small pull-off at the corner of Summit Road and Cleveland-Massillon Road where a birder could park and then walk about 800 feet south to view the reservoir from Cleveland-Massillon Road. Minor Road also crosses the reservoir and is lightly traveled, but the approach must be made from Cleveland-Massillon Road since OH-21 crosses and blocks passage there.

Migrating waterfowl, including all three species of mergansers, and Common Nighthawks have also been spotted near dusk in season.

The Upper Wolf Creek is a small headwater tributary to the Tuscarawas River located in predominately rural and low-density residential areas of western Summit and eastern Medina Counties. The Creek originates in Medina County and flows east into Summit County before forming the Barberton Reservoir in the City of Norton and Copley Township. From the Barberton Reservoir dam, the Upper Wolf Creek drains approximately 18,062 acres. In addition, Barberton Reservoir serves as the primary drinking (source) water supply for the City of Barberton, serving a population of over 29,000 people.
