Crystal Lake, Wakefield

Wakefield, Massachusetts 01880

About this Location

Crystal Lake is a reservoir in Wakefield that provides some of the town's drinking water. It is one of the two large lakes in Wakefield, along with Lake Quannapowitt, which is popular for recreation and sports. Crystal Lake Park is a small park at the end of Sylvan Avenue that offers a view of the lake and some green space. However, swimming and boating are not allowed on Crystal Lake due to contamination from arsenic and tar. The lake was once used for ice harvesting in the 19th century, but now it serves as a scenic spot for visitors and residents.

There is a view of Crystal Lake from the sidewalk on Broadway Street at the north end of the lake. The lake is the community reservoir and the watershed area around the lake is posted with no trespassing.
