Birds of Interest

The main avian highlights here are Gray Jay and Pine Grosbeak, both species with very limited range in Arizona. Look for other high-elevation species as well, particularly Dusky Grouse and American Three-Toed Woodpecker.

About this Location

Sunrise Campground is managed by Sunrise Park Resort. After 4 miles on 273, make a right (south) turn to the direction of Sunrise Ski Area.  Sunrise Campground will then be a quick left turn to the east after this turnoff.  The road to the campground is a dirt road, and it is .4 mile long before reaching the campground.  This campground is situated at 9,400' and is full of spruce-fir and aspen forest.  Walk the loops of the campground and on trails just outside of the campground in nearby meadows for the best results.

Located in the heart of Arizona’s magnificent White Mountains, Sunrise Park Resort is a recreational area offering a wide range of activities. In winter, three mountains offer skiing and snowboarding. 65 runs offer adventure for skiers or boarders of any level. There is also cross-country ski trails, sledding, and tubing area.

The Sunrise Park Lodge, located near Sunrise Lake, is available for lodging in the winter and summer seasons. The 100-room hotel offers dining, an indoor pool and whirlpool, a lounge, and a game room.

For Snowboarders and Skiers, Sunrise offers a Terrain Park. Within the site of Sunrise Day Lodge, the park features implanted wood and metal rails, boxes, and a special event area with jumps ranging from beginner to advanced.

Sunrise Park Resort is owned and operated by the White Mountain Apache Tribe.
