Tips for Birding

Private property. Owned, operated and paid by fee paying CCC HOA members. Not open to the public. No trespassing.

Walnut Canyon Lakes are the easiest part of the Continental Park area to bird year-round. The water is churned all year, so these ponds provide an easy source of open water during the frozen winter. The easiest way to bird is to park at the marker and walk the trails around the ponds; this way you do not block the road as there is not much room to pull over. Ducks use the open water (be sure to check both ponds), seed-eating birds enjoy the feeders at adjacent houses, Bald Eagles use nearby snags in the winter, and the adjacent woodland is good for pinyon-juniper species, including Pinyon Jay and Juniper Titmouse.
