Tips for Birding

Drive the roads in winter for Northern Shrike, raptors, sparrows and finches.  In summer this is a good spot for edge/scrub breeders include Willow Flycather, Bell's Vireo, Orchard Oriole, Brown Thrasher, and Gray Catbird.  In migration, this is often an excellent spot for sparrows.  The point is good vantage point for scoping the lake.

Birds of Interest

Bell's Vireo and Willow Flycatcher are easy to find in the thickets along NW 138th Street.  Most winters a Northern Shrike will be present.

About this Location

This state wildlife area is reached by taking Broadway Street northwest out of Polk City.  The habitat is prairie restoration with some scrub and woodland.
