Tips for Birding

The prairie areas are good for sparrows and Sedge Wren.  The fringes of the ponds and wet areas often have LeConte's and Nelson's Sparrows in fall among hoards of Swamp Sparrows. There is often a wintering Northern Shrike or Rough-legged Hawk.

Birds of Interest

Primarily a fall and winter spot for migrant sparrows and Northern Shrike. 

About this Location

From Polk City, take Broadway northwest out of town and past Big Creek SP.  Broadway becomes NW Madrid Drive.  Take a right at the Hopkins Grove Methodist church on NW 146th Street.  This road leads into the northwest tracts of the Big Creek WMA.
