The majority of Dunham Park is largely forested and contains valuable headwater streams whose health is essential to the overall health of downstream waterways of the Cuyahoga River. The conservation and protection of these forests and headwater tributaries are an essential part of Cleveland Metroparks' management of the property.

The park will become part of Bedford Reservation and Cleveland Metroparks has applied for financial assistance through the State of Ohio NatureWorks grant program to improve public recreation at the park.
