Tips for Birding

Signs on a locked gate say Rimmy Jim is closed thru 2019 for an antelope study.

This very unscenic spot is well worth a check during passerine and shorebird migrations. Lines of tamarisks attract migrant songbirds of many flavors, and shorebirds are attracted to rare access to mudflats in the middle of a desert. In winter, look for raptors and check Horned Lark flocks for possible longspurs. The turnoff from US-89 is marked by turn lanes (one in each direction; there aren’t many of those along this stretch of road) and you can see the patch of tamarisks from the highway.
